CGC Description CGC is a tool for finding candidate genes for experimentally induced arthritis and non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus QTLs in rat. A number of preset keywords associated with arthritis/diabetes are presented. Up to ten new keywords can be added by the user (below the preset ones). Each keyword is alotted a value calculated as the number of PubMed abstracts found with the keyword together with a reference term, for example "arthritis", "diabetes" etc, divided by the number of PubMed abstracts found with the keyword alone. This gives an estimation of how closely related the keyword is to a given phenotype. Values for keywords added by the user can automatically be calculated in the same manner by simply pressing the "fetch point" button. When pressing the button "Search", OMIM records for all the genes within the human segment homologous to the rat QTL are queried. All checked keywords are included in the search. The result of the search are displayed att the bottom of the page, including gene symbol, all keywords found within each gene's OMIM text and the total sum of all values for the matching keywords. The higher the total keyword sum, the more likely the gene candidate. |
